A Virtual Stroll Along the Mickle Trafford-Shotton Railway

victoria road bridge
A few yards on
, and looking back the way we have come, we see above us the bridge which carries Victoria Road over the old line. This view dates from July 1997. Below, looking in the opposite direction, is the cycleway as it appeared five years later, in June 2002.

On the left, you can see the attractively weathered sandstone bedrock through which the trackbed was cut at this point. Observe also how green and attractive the environment is here- despite its proximity to the city centre; the works of man and nature blending perfectly.

To our left, on the far side of Brook Lane, a large new housing development, Duke's Manor, has risen on the site of the old Finalex aluminium factory. With recreational open spaces disappearing rapidly in this area, one would imagine that these new residents would benefit greatly from a peaceful greenway so close to their homes.
